Our lovely heritage school building at the corner of Clergy, Earl and Barrie Streets has been recognized for its importance as a historic building with our Sydenham Ward community.  Built in the 1840s for the Kingston Collegiate Institute, it became known as Sydenham Public School in 1936 after the high school moved to Frontenac Street.  It remains one of the oldest continuing schools in Ontario, drawing its students from the families in historic Sydenham Ward and employees of the nearby institutions.

The Ontario Heritage Trust and the Friends of the Sydenham Public School hosted an unveiling of a provincial plaque commemorating Sydenham Public School on Wednesday, June 10, 2009.
